CASE STUDY: NZ POLICE - FORENSIC (FINGER PRINTING) SYSTEM UPGRADE
Resultex was engaged by NZ Police to manage the addition of a Palm Print capability to the existing Automated Fingerprint Information System (AFIS). Palm Print, as the name suggests, involves the capturing of an image of the entire hand by placing the hand on a glass platen.
The project included the following deliverables:
- Development of business requirements for sponsor signoff
- Preparation of Business Case for senior management approval.
- Management of hardware and software development and commissioning
- Development and management of local data capture capability for 300,000 records in NZ, previously undertaken by FBI in USA (generating savings in excess of $NZ1M)
- Successful commissioning into production on time and under budget.
Since being commissioned the Palm Print technology has resulted in the identification of in excess of 2000 suspects from prints being found at crime scenes and previously captured but which could not be processed until this technology was introduced.
